Best Practices.

To ensure optimal performance in humid conditions, it is recommended to apply a coating to the boards. This will enhance their durability and resilience against moisture, thereby maintaining their reliability in load-bearing applications.

When resizing the boards (cutting to different or smaller dimensions), it is essential to coat the newly exposed edges.

For components being fastened, such as beams, rafters, joists, and trusses, pre-drilling is essential. The diameter of the pre-drilled hole should be smaller than the screw diameter to ensure effective engagement of the screw threads.

During transportation and storage, it is important to protect the PSB® boards from direct exposure to water droplets and precipitation on their edges and surfaces. Ensure that adequate protective covers are provided to maintain their integrity.

For fastening, it is recommended to use screws, nails, or staples with a length at least 2.5 times the thickness of the board, but not less than 50-75 mm. Fastening should be carried out at intervals of 150-300 mm on intermediate supports (depending on roof pitch), 150 mm along board joints, and 100 mm along roof edges.

It is advised not to install decorative tiles or wallpaper directly on PSB® Supreme, nor should plaster work be applied to its surface.

FAQs.

Site hoarding is the temporary barrier installed around construction projects to protect the public, secure the site, and provide space for branding. It blocks unauthorized access, reduces dust and noise, and can carry marketing visuals for the project. Traditionally made from plywood, site hoarding is often replaced after one project due to damage from weather or pests. DesertBoard’s Palm Strand Board (PSB®) is a more sustainable option, designed for reusability, termite resistance, and durability in GCC climates, making hoarding cost-effective and eco-friendly.

Durable site hoarding prevents safety breaches, project delays, and reputational damage. Weak hoarding can collapse under strong winds or degrade in humid conditions, creating hazards. Traditional wooden board hoarding often fails after limited use, driving up costs. DesertBoard PSB® offers strength, stability, and reusability across multiple projects. With termite resistance and weather resilience, it maintains performance even in harsh GCC conditions. By choosing DesertBoard PSB®, contractors gain a safer, longer-lasting hoarding solution while also reducing waste and supporting sustainability goals.

Traditional wooden hoarding typically ends up in landfills after just one project cycle due to warping or termite damage. This creates both waste and disposal costs. DesertBoard PSB® is engineered for multiple reuses, meaning fewer boards are required over time. Each board is carbon-negative, locking away carbon as each m3 of PSB wooden board can stores up to 401 kg of CO2e while lowering the project’s footprint. By adopting DesertBoard PSB®, contractors significantly reduce material waste, disposal fees, and environmental impact, making site hoarding both eco-conscious and economically efficient.

Yes. Reusability is a key advantage of modern sustainable hoarding materials. While traditional wooden board may last only one or two projects, DesertBoard PSB® can be used multiple times without losing strength. Its durability reduces replacement frequency, making it cost-effective over the long term. Contractors benefit from hoarding that can move from one site to another while maintaining stability and professional presentation. This reusability directly supports both financial savings and sustainability practices.

Site hoarding is often the first interaction the public has with a construction project, making its quality and appearance critical for brand perception. Poorly maintained hoarding can signal neglect, while durable, clean hoarding reflects professionalism. DesertBoard PSB® provides a smooth, stable surface that can be painted or wrapped with graphics, ensuring long-lasting, visually appealing displays. By using sustainable hoarding, developers also demonstrate environmental responsibility, enhancing their reputation with communities and investors alike.

Safety regulations require hoarding to withstand wind loads, prevent unauthorized access, and provide a secure barrier around construction sites. Materials must remain stable over time and under pressure. A traditional wooden board may weaken in harsh climates, but DesertBoard PSB® maintains strength and stability throughout multiple project cycles. Its engineered density and termite resistance make it a safe and reliable option for contractors seeking compliance with local building codes while also supporting sustainability commitments.

In GCC climates, traditional wooden board hoarding quickly warps, swells, and deteriorates due to heat, humidity, and termites. This leads to frequent replacements and higher costs.
