Why PSB® Supreme

  • Superior Moisture Resistance Performance: PSB® Supreme exhibits excellent moisture resistance, with a maximum thickness swelling of 15%. PSB® Supreme, when coated properly, results in a thickness swelling of less than 5%.
  • High Modulus of Elasticity and Rupture Strength: PSB® Supreme demonstrates high performance in terms of modulus of elasticity, measuring 3,500 Newtons per square millimeter (N/mm²), and modulus of rupture, ranging from 16 to 22 Newtons per square millimeter (N/mm²).
  • Enhanced Screw Withdrawal Strength and Reusability: PSB® Supreme provides exceptional screw hold capacity compared to other solutions, with edge hold at 1,350 Newtons (N) and face hold at 1,650 Newtons (N). PSB® Supreme’s mechanical properties allow for repeated use of the same hole without any loss in performance.

Best Practices.

To ensure optimal performance in humid conditions, it is recommended to apply a coating to the boards. This will enhance their durability and resilience against moisture, thereby maintaining their reliability in load-bearing applications.

When resizing the boards (cutting to different or smaller dimensions), it is essential to coat the newly exposed edges.

For components being fastened, such as beams, rafters, joists, and trusses, pre-drilling is essential. The diameter of the pre-drilled hole should be smaller than the screw diameter to ensure effective engagement of the screw threads.

During transportation and storage, it is important to protect the PSB® boards from direct exposure to water droplets and precipitation on their edges and surfaces. Ensure that adequate protective covers are provided to maintain their integrity.

For fastening, it is recommended to use screws, nails, or staples with a length at least 2.5 times the thickness of the board, but not less than 50-75 mm. Fastening should be carried out at intervals of 150-300 mm on intermediate supports (depending on roof pitch), 150 mm along board joints, and 100 mm along roof edges.

It is advised not to install decorative tiles or wallpaper directly on PSB® Supreme, nor should plaster work be applied to its surface.

FAQs.

Fencing defines boundaries, provides privacy, and enhances security for residential, commercial, and institutional spaces. It also contributes to aesthetics and landscaping design. Common fencing materials include timber, metal, and composites, but many struggle in hot, humid climates. Timber rots or attracts termites, and metals can corrode. DesertBoard’s Palm Strand Board (PSB®) offers a sustainable alternative, engineered for durability and termite resistance. Locally manufactured in Abu Dhabi, it provides long-lasting, eco-friendly fencing suitable for GCC projects.

In the GCC, extreme heat, humidity, and termites quickly degrade conventional fencing materials. Traditional wooden boards warp and require constant maintenance, deteriorating rapidly. Durable fencing is essential to reduce replacement costs and maintain safety. DesertBoard PSB® is engineered to resist termites, moisture, and climate-related stress, ensuring long-term stability. By choosing DesertBoard PSB®, developers and homeowners achieve fencing that withstands regional challenges while also delivering carbon-negative sustainability and reduced lifecycle costs.

The lifespan of fencing depends on material and climate conditions. unlaminated timber may last only a few years in humid or termite-prone environments, while steel can last longer but requires maintenance to avoid rust. DesertBoard PSB® offers a longer-lasting solution, engineered to resist termites, moisture, and warping. With protective finishes, using PSB® for fencing can provide stable performance for many years in GCC conditions, reducing lifecycle costs and providing a sustainable alternative to short-lived timber fencing.

Yes. Fencing not only provides privacy and security but also enhances the overall look of a property. Modern designs often combine function with style. DesertBoard PSB® offers versatility for custom cuts and decorative finishes, enabling fences that fit both traditional and contemporary aesthetics. Its compatibility with laminates, veneers, or coatings allows homeowners and developers to tailor designs while maintaining sustainability. DesertBoard PSB® combines durability, style, and eco-responsibility, elevating both function and aesthetics.

Timber fencing in humid or coastal areas requires frequent sealing, painting, or replacement due to moisture and termite damage. Metal fencing often needs anti-rust treatments. DesertBoard PSB® requires significantly less maintenance when finished with protective coatings, thanks to its engineered durability and termite resistance. For homeowners and contractors, this means reduced upkeep costs and longer-lasting performance. Choosing PSB® ensures fencing that remains reliable and attractive in GCC climates with minimal maintenance.

Fencing prevents unauthorized access and clearly defines property boundaries, serving as the first line of defense for homes, schools, and commercial sites. However, weak or deteriorating fencing can compromise safety. DesertBoard PSB® provides reliable strength and termite resistance, ensuring fencing remains secure over time. Its durability reduces the risk of failures common with timber, making it a practical and sustainable material for outdoor security.

Yes. Modern fencing goes beyond plain barriers to include decorative boards, patterned screens, and integrated branding. DesertBoard PSB® is versatile and adaptable, supporting CNC-cut designs, paint, laminates, and other finishes. This design flexibility allows homeowners and developers to achieve contemporary aesthetics while using an eco-friendly, carbon-negative material. By combining creativity with sustainability, PSB® makes fencing both functional and visually appealing.

DesertBoard’s Palm Strand Board (PSB®) is produced from upcycled date palm fronds, making it carbon-negative, zero-formaldehyde, and deforestation-free. Unlike conventional wood fencing, which might contribute to deforestation and is prone to termite damage, DesertBoard PSB® provides strength and resilience in outdoor environments. With proper coatings, it withstands the GCC’s heat, humidity, and UV exposure. Its versatility also allows for customized fencing designs. By choosing DesertBoard PSB®, developers and homeowners gain a fencing solution that balances durability, aesthetics, and environmental responsibility.

Traditional wooden fencing is vulnerable to termites, rot, and warping and might degrade quickly in humid or coastal climates.
