The DesertBoard manufacturing facility in KEZAD, Abu Dhabi, recently hosted a delegation of project managers and directors from ECC Contracting, alongside the PMI team, in the presence of senior management and Mr. Hatem Farah, Chairman, ECC Group. The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen technical alignment across the ECC Group and enhance awareness of sustainable material solutions within project delivery.
During the visit, the delegation received a detailed overview of DesertBoard’s material sourcing and manufacturing processes, offering insight into how agricultural byproduct, specifically pruned palm fronds, is transformed into high-performance Palm Strand Boards (PSB®). The session highlighted the role of locally manufactured engineered boards in supporting efficient, sustainable, and scalable construction practices across the region.
A guided walkthrough of the facility provided firsthand exposure to the PSB® fabrication process, as well as the UV production line, enabling the team to better understand the technical capabilities, quality control measures, and production efficiency that underpin DesertBoard’s operations. This practical engagement bridges the gap between material specification and on-site application, allowing project teams to make more informed decisions during design and execution phases.
As a primary manufacturer of engineered wooden boards in the region, DesertBoard plays a critical role in supporting the UAE’s industrial ecosystem and supply chain resilience. By offering locally produced, sustainable alternatives, it enables developers, contractors, and consultants to reduce dependency on imports while aligning with broader environmental and economic objectives.
The visit also reinforces the importance of early-stage material awareness in construction projects. With increasing emphasis on sustainability, performance, and lifecycle efficiency, materials such as PSB® are becoming integral to modern building practices.
